GOOD JOB

yes. its 11.39pm and i am finally finished with work. i have just gotten off the phone with my printers. a client had called in this afternoon to ask for some proofs to be delivered to them by tomorrow noon and no printers open before 11am. thats just not enough time to get things done for the courier guy to deliver the goods.

its at these times like this you wish you had a new epson A3 printer.

so i just tried my luck with my most trustworthy printers at 11pm and, yes, they were still working. thank god!

and thank god for technology. i had the files FTPed over to them and they said they will deliver the prints to my place by midnight. wow.

i have the client to thank. its with clients like this that continue to push the envolope of creative technology. without them, i wouldn't have known how fast my printers could and would react. without them i wouldn't have known how great a relationship i have with my printers. i really owe them one big time.

the advantage of living in singapore, or rather on joo chiat road, is that supper places are easily available.

its been a very productive day. only an hour before i was still working on the files i have to deliver by noon tomorrow. i have

1. burned 7 CD roms
2. FTPed 6 files to printers
3. chatted on ICQ with a good friend
4. SMS charlie
5. emailed joe on the shoot schedule
6. check out flights to jakarta
7. given directions to printers for delivery and supper
8.started writing this blog entry

not too bad for a hectic day. i mean i am not even complaining. joe had emailed this image back. the clients really loved it. it might just be on the cover of the latest annual report i am working on.

i met up with a couple of executive from stikfas this afternoon. i have to say that they are really nice people, totally no airs. their success story sounds like it could be turned into a movie.

yes. after all the complain i had the week about work, i am happy with overworking today. it looks like i am heading off to jakarta for a break this coming week.

hopefully.

new adventures

since photography became a job, it hasn't been functioning its role as a hobby much. friends envy me saying that i am doing what i love, my job is like my hobby. today, i have come to an understanding of the contradition this has become. since i eat and breathe photography almost everyday, i realised that having photography as my sole hobby could just be a recipe for a catastrophe.

lately, there has been much talk about salsa within my circle of friends. i must say it is something very different from what i think i am capable of. but then again, if i am truely in need of a change, seeking something somewhat of an adventure might just be direction i should head. well, even if it turns out to be not my cup of tea, i will still get some form of amusement just people watching.

saturday evening class coming up. sunday out by the beach again. hmm. not too bad a proposition for the coming weekend. the week hasn't started, technically, and i am already thinking of the weekend. good job!

i should go see mum and dad. i miss titus too.

maybe i need a break.

or simply regulating my work so that i can enjoy photography as a hobby once again.

i love my job. or maybe that is the problem

stop. the traffic light is red.

crazy week

5 hours and i have to be up again doing my next shoot. its been a crazy week with shoots happening everyday. busy is good as many told me but i have come to a deeper understanding of what that really means. its a blessing that i get to work with people who are really nice. i thank GOD for them as they make my job so much simpler. they are just like friends. friends i have to know throught my works working my ass off.

great!

i have been learning how to do business in the midst of this hectic schedule. i am glad i was able to make time to have good lunches during this time. savour every moment of rest and relaxation before the strobe lights go flashing again. evenings are prescious but my strong-willed mind just wouldn't let my sluggish body take a rest. meeting up with friends for dinner, visit over at the studio and even an exhibition opening, i have been through them all this week.

i should be very honour to end my week by having the priviledge to attend an 80th birthday party. amazing. right now, i think, i just might beging to understand how jack bauer and his team at the CTU experience in their pursuit to hunt down the terroists. i totally recommend anyone out there to get hold of the TV serie 24 if you havn't seen it.

and right now i should really go to bed.

the dog walked me

sarah had to be walked.
the housemate called at quarter to 10.
she was out for the day. asked that i walked sarah.
as it turned out, sarah walked me
i haven't had a chance to do nothing but look at
the grass, the trees, the flowers.
that was what she showed me.

i got to take time off to walk more often.
sarah's going to be gone by the end of the week
and i doubt paws will walk me come monday.
i wonder what happens when you put a leash on a cat.

now sarah wants to play. she brought me the tennis ball.

'Bewitched' statue plan bothers, bewilders but Salem touts it as tourism booster
By Kathy McCabe, Globe Staff | April 28, 2005
SALEM -- When the cast and crew of ''Bewitched" flew into Salem in 1970 to film episodes of the television sitcom, Witch City rolled out its red carpet.

Elizabeth Montgomery, the actress who played twitchy-nosed Samantha Stephens, was honored at official dinners. Fans thronged The House of the Seven Gables and other historic sites used in the filming. And Oct. 7, 1970, was declared ''Bewitched Day" in Salem.

But now some in Salem are upset over plans by the TV Land cable network to honor the late Montgomery with a 9-foot bronze statue in a city infamous for its 17th century persecution of people feared to be witches. The statue would depict Montgomery sitting sidesaddle on a broom. It would stand in a downtown park at the corner of Essex and Washington streets.

''It's insensitive to what happened in 1692," said Jean Harrison, one of several Salem residents opposing the plan. ''She was a fictional witch, but the people who died were not witches."

Mayor Stanley J. Usovicz Jr. said the statue will bring a bit of whimsy to town and maybe a boost to Salem's seasonal tourist trade. He said the city insisted that the statue be placed away from sites associated with the witch trials, such as a park dedicated to the memory of the 19 accused witches hanged on Gallows Hill in 1692.

''I see this as something like the Red Auerbach statue in Boston," he said of the bronze figure of the former Celtics coach on a bench at Quincy Market. ''It's a place where people will stop, get their picture taken, and have a little bit of fun while they're visiting Salem."

Last night the project cleared another hurdle: The city's Design Review Board approved minor changes to the park where the statue will go. The Salem Redevelopment Authority will take a final vote on the plan May 17.

The Samantha Stephens role, which is about to be reprised by Nicole Kidman in a ''Bewitched" movie, would join a cast of characters immortalized in bronze across America by TV Land, including Ralph Kramden, Andy and Opie Taylor, and Mary Richards. TV Land, which shows reruns of old television programs, calls the statues TV Land Landmarks.

Some critics oppose the statue on other grounds, saying the series was set in Westport, Conn.

''The connection to Salem is tenuous at best," said John Carr, a former member of the city's Historical Commission. ''They didn't live in Salem on that show. They came here 40 years ago to film three or four episodes, and now we're going to put up a 'Bewitched' statue at one of our most visible intersections."

A TV Land executive defended the selection of Salem for the statue. ''The idea behind our landmarks is to celebrate America's favorite TV characters in places where there is a connection to them," said Rob Pellizzi, senior vice president of TV Land. TV Land hopes to unveil the Montgomery statue June 15.

Although Ralph Kramden, of ''The Honeymooners" fame, was a Brooklyn bus driver, TV Land put his statue outside the New York City Port Authority bus terminal. Mayberry was a fictional town, so the network put a statue of Andy and Opie Taylor, from ''The Andy Griffith Show," in Raleigh, N.C.

By contract, TV Land's statue of Mary Richards, heroine of ''The Mary Tyler Moore Show," was placed in downtown Minneapolis, where Moore tossed her tam-o'-shanter into the air before every episode. The statue of Dr. Robert Hartley, the psychologist of ''The Bob Newhart Show," sits in Chicago, where the comedy was set.

''Those landmarks all have been very well received," Pellizzi said. ''When it came to Samantha Stephens, we felt Salem would be a fun place to make a connection."

Some see the statue as a crass advertisement for the cable network, which is giving the statue to the city, will maintain it, and will be acknowledged on a small plaque.

''We all know the real reason they want to put that statue here is that it's good PR for them," said Meg Twohey, a resident for more than 20 years.

Not everyone is bothered by the return of ''Bewitched" to Salem, the self-proclaimed ''Halloween Capital of the World." Some in the city's Wiccan community say they welcome the tribute to one of America's best-loved witches.

''Many of us love and adore the show; we grew up watching it," said Jerrie Hildebrand, 50, a graphic designer and practicing Wiccan. ''But it has nothing to do with our religion. . . . I only wish I could twitch my nose and make my house clean."

an incident by the merlion park

Originally uploaded by elisabeth montgomery.

i have positive ID on this indian man. i do not have a name. i just have a joke. i did not make this joke up based on any racial prejudice. it was purely an incident that happened by the merlion park yesterday.

this indian man had handed his video camera over to a chinese couple, most likely tourists from china, so that they could record a clip of him posing in front of the infamous merlion.

"just press the red button and it will shoot!" the man in the turban demanded.

the clip was shot.

the chinese couple returned the camera, walked off. "let's have a picture with the durian," the man told his partner...

the above story may not be as funny as a joke should be. i was just being silly. bored- in need to share what i heard and saw. perhaps i am a bad storyteller.

i just can't help but think about our countries' tourism promotion taglines. "uniquely singapore" - singapore just needed to use that kind of a phrase people will question. "incredible india" - short, precise, clear. why can't we be as simple as just like press the red button and it will shoot ?

maybe malaysia is truely asia.

nope. not drunk. just bored and had to come up with this entry.

article #1

article #1
Originally uploaded by elisabeth montgomery.

this article is probably found half a day after it was left in the sink. i needed a drink and had gone into the kitchen to pour myself a glass of water. and there it was in the sink- a fork, a knife and a plate. if i have the ability to pull fingerprints out of it like the dudes in CSI or CTU, i would have IDed the culprit. that would be unthinkable for now, i should keep on doing what i do best and so that is how i have come up with a brillant project idea with article #1.

so, this was how it all started. life at sea breeze apartments has been a breeze through the first couple of weeks. my senses must have become more sensitive to my surroundings as time went by. coming home from a long day's shoot, i started seeing clutter in common areas like how article #1 was spotted by the kitchen sink. like any clutters, they came in packs - glasses with a sip of whisky leftovers, as if it was left just to reward the idiot who finds it; plastic packagings for food with nothing much edible left; wine bottle collections which increased daily, steadily; and the migration of tobacco all over the apartment floor with the help of the sea breeze right out of east coast park.

this mysterious occurence must have happened during my absence here at the apartment. "it is inevitable!" i thought, reminding myself that i am not staying alone. if i have more money, or even am willing to spend more just enough to kick any asses out of here and have this apartment for my own indulgence, i would not have made this entry in my blog.

any previous attempts to alert the housemates of my opinion on the cleanliness failed completely since article # 1 was just found a couple of hours ago.

my brillant idea will involve the documentation of the produce of these mysterious occurence right here at 550A. i am committed to come up with an excellent report with the articles that will be found, still. and in so doing, i shall curate and stage an exhibition of the articles and title it: leftovers. so watch out for it. coming to a gallery near you!

which one?

jokes aside now. its not funny. with the chain of events that have been happening, this thought would inevitably cross my mind sooner than later- so which one will be the one? a famous photographer was asked a similar question once- "so when do you know that its the right moment to release the shutter?"
"you will know it, its the same feeling you get when you need the john." he chuckled after thinking for a moment.

well, if he is right, taking pictures with the right moment has to be something of second nature to the photographer.

my question is could this be applied to finding happiness as well?
will i know it when i find the right one? the one and only, my soul mate?

is there real happiness? true love?
do you really think marriages are meant to last? someone smsed me these questions out of the blue it turned that we have never met. she got my number from a friend and decided that i was her victim of psychological angst.

i was calm, disturbed nonetheless.

why do this married women call me, make a pass or even ask me out? trust me, i am flattered but what i am really asking is, could a healthy marriage really be so difficult to keep that people are on the verge of infidelity?

so back again to that feeling of wanting to use the bathroom. i do believe in true love. i had a bad fall, giving my all to a girl who did not love me as much as she said she did but i still believe that there will be the one.

the question remains, which one?

how would i know?

i need to go to the loo, then straight to bed.

050505!

"very handsome, you look very handsome." said the woman whom i am being introduced to. her name is niki. i did not know what to say. lost for words, i paused for a moment, thinking, coming to terms with her compliments. "thank you" was the least i could say. isabelle just couldn't stop teasing me afterwards, putting on a grin every time i looked up at her.

i saw a friend in the distant. excused myself, i walked over to say hi to her. when i returned, isabelle was still grinning from ear to ear. apparently my new found english lady friend had told her how gorgeous she thinks i am.

wow. that is a lovely compliment. interesting.

so what is it with me and older women?

rainbow connection

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
and someone believed it,
and look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell,
we know that it's probably magic....

Have you been half asleep
and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me.
La, la la, La, la la la, La Laa, la la, La, La la laaaaaaa

lovely song. too tired to find out more about it.
find out more about it in the morning.

speed, give me what i need

BLINK, KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL, i have been reading these books simultaneously. i don't quite like the feeling of jumping back and forth books. i knew there has got to be a way to get around this problem.

my guess is if i harness speed reading, i should have the chance of finishing up all the books i bought at the last book warehouse sale before the next one comes along. i am just hungry for the word at this moment of life, i can't think of other better ways of doing it. just got to read. and read...

blog what?

my mind's always fragmented. i am glad i have a blog now to help me organise a little. an idea popped up while i was reading BLINK and i know i should put it in here before i forget. i have been wanting to improve my vocabulary but never really got down to doing it. "you are rather frugal." i was told earlier last evening and i had to ask, like many other situation before, the definition of the word. that was when i know i lack word power. well, it wasn't really embarrassing or anything. i got to stop pretending i know what people are talking about and start empowering myself. thus, i have come up with the idea of updating myself with new words each day on this blog.

"if you are given a chance to give yourself a new name what would it be?" ran asked. that came too suddenly. didn't think much of it, i continued with my breakfast. and so here i am hours after that incident. lisa montgomery. thats what i might call myself if i were a girl. well, actually it should have been elisabeth montgomery but the username was already taken.

i am not secretly wishing that i was borned a woman. i just thought that maybe if i had a user name like this, people might be more interested. i just had to pick a montgomery. it just popped into my head. and i do know a few cool elisabeths in my life.
